Privacy policy
The short version: this website doesn't use cookies and doesn't ask for any of your details. Sono, the coach on Telegram, stores what you tell it so it can coach you. It uses an AI service to write its replies, never sells your data, and deletes everything when you send /deleteme.
1Who we are
Sono is an AI fitness coach that runs as a Telegram bot (@Sonopilot_bot). It's in free beta and run by Luke Alexander, who is responsible for your data. This policy covers the website asksono.com and the Sono bot. Where we say "we", we mean Luke and the small team helping him run Sono.
Sono is a coaching tool and doesn't give medical advice. Talk to a doctor before making big changes to your exercise or diet, especially if you have a health condition.
Sono is run from Maryland, United States.
2What this website collects
- No cookies, no accounts, no forms. The site doesn't ask for your name, email or anything else.
- Privacy-friendly visit counts. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to see how many people visit and how fast the pages load. It doesn't use cookies or fingerprinting, and it doesn't track you across other sites. It records things like the page you viewed, the referring site, your browser type and your approximate country.
- Hosting logs. The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which may briefly process technical data such as your IP address to deliver the page and protect it from abuse.
- Telegram links. The "Join" button opens Telegram. Once you're in Telegram, Telegram's own privacy policy applies to your use of the app.
3What Sono (the bot) collects
When you chat with Sono, it stores the following so it can coach you:
Your profile
- Telegram details: your chat ID, @username, and first and last name
- Your preferred name, sex, time zone and daily check-in time
- Your feature settings
Your intake answers
- Health screening answers
- Goals, target weight and activity level
- Eating habits, food preferences and allergies
- Sleep and stress
- Date of birth, used to check that you're 18 or older
- Which version of our terms you agreed to, and when
Your daily check-ins
- Bodyweight, calories, protein, steps, workouts and sleep
- Energy, hunger, mood and how well you stuck to the plan
- Your notes and the full text of your check-in messages
Your gym logs
- Exercises, sets, reps, weights and personal records
Conversations and safety
- The history of messages between you and Sono
- Safety flags. If a message suggests you might need extra care (for example, a possible health or safety concern), Sono marks it so Luke can review it personally.
Sono doesn't store photos, voice messages or files you send. The only images involved are progress charts that Sono creates and sends to you.
Some of this, such as health screening answers and body metrics, is health information. We ask for your explicit consent during intake before collecting it, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by deleting your data (see section 9).
4How we use it
- To coach you: personalised replies, plans, check-ins, reminders at your chosen time, and progress charts
- To keep you safe: flagging messages that may need a human to look at them
- To make sure Sono is only used by adults (18+)
- To review how clients are doing and improve the coaching during the beta. Luke looks at a review copy of client data for this.
We don't sell your data, we don't use it for advertising, and we don't share it with anyone except the services listed in section 6.
5AI processing
Sono's replies are written by an AI model, Anthropic's Claude, which we use through Anthropic's API. To write a reply, or to read a message where you log your lifts, Sono sends Anthropic the relevant message along with the context it needs, such as your profile, recent logs and conversation history.
Anthropic processes this to generate the reply. Under Anthropic's commercial terms for its API, Anthropic doesn't use this data to train its models by default. It automatically deletes API inputs and outputs within 30 days, though it can keep them longer where the law requires it or to enforce its usage policy, for example if a message is flagged as violating it. See Anthropic's Privacy Center for details.
AI can make mistakes. Use your own judgment, and don't rely on Sono for medical decisions.
6Who else handles your data
We use a few services to run Sono. They process data on our behalf and only for these purposes:
- Telegram delivers messages between you and Sono.
- Anthropic (Claude API) generates coaching replies and reads your lift messages.
- DigitalOcean hosts the server where Sono's database lives, in New York (nyc1), USA.
- Google Sheets holds a private review copy of client data that Luke uses to follow up with clients. Only Luke can access it.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and runs its cookieless analytics.
If you live outside the US, your data will be transferred to and stored in the US. We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
7Where it's stored and how long we keep it
Your data is stored in a database on a DigitalOcean server in New York (nyc1), USA, and synced to the private Google Sheet described above.
We keep your data for as long as you're using Sono. All of your data (profile, intake answers, logs and messages) is deleted 90 days after your last message to Sono, or sooner if you send /deleteme. The same rule applies to the review copy in the Google Sheet.
Sono will send you a reminder in Telegram 7 days before your data is deleted. Reply to Sono to keep your data, or send /export first to download a copy.
8Security
Access to your data is limited to Luke and those who help him run and maintain Sono. Access to the server is protected, and your data is sent over encrypted connections. No system is perfectly secure, though, so please don't share anything with Sono that you aren't comfortable storing.
9Your rights: access, copy and deletion
- Get a copy: send
/exportto Sono and you'll receive a copy of your data. - Delete everything: send
/deleteme. Once Luke confirms it, all your data is wiped from Sono's database and removed from the Google Sheet. - Correct something: tell Sono in the chat, or contact us (section 12).
- Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as objecting to or restricting how we use your data, or complaining to your local data protection authority.
10Age limit
Sono is only for adults 18 and over. We ask for your date of birth during intake to check this. If we find out that someone under 18 has used Sono, we'll delete their data.
11Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, for example if we start collecting new kinds of data, Sono will let you know in Telegram before it takes effect.
